Paul is older, in his forties, and a professor. She lived first with her aunt in the south and then, after school, she moved to London where she worked in publishing, and where she met Paul. Since that horrible night, Alison has flown under the radar. Like that story, Kent’s novel takes place in an isolated village (in this case, Saltleigh) and concerns a horrific crime which has rippled out into the community.Īlison used to be Esme and when she was fourteen her entire family was slaughtered. I can certainly see why Christobel Kent’s novel The Crooked House has drawn comparisons with the British mystery Broadchurch.
